![]() ![]() It's a rare case where they're nearly even matched. I don't want to spoil what happens in "Room," just please go watch it. Ma is a rich role, one of the strongest mothers ever depicted onscreen, and her baby is the only thing holding her together. Larson won just about every possible award last year, and it's merited. You are with this little boy the entire time, and you feel wonder when he feels wonder, frustration when he feels frustration because director Lenny Abrahamson and the fabulous production design have established his world so wonderfully. He's 5 and obviously ultra naïve about the world because of his limited scope. ![]() Jack kinda gets on your nerves in the novel, but he's supposed to. Larson might've gotten top billing but Tremblay is the star here. ![]() One thing I'm not sure people appreciate is the movie is seriously all from Jack's POV. Like any good mother, Ma dedicates herself to keeping Jack happy and safe, nurturing him with warmth and love and doing typical things like playing games and telling stories. Donoghue adapt her novel into an Oscar-nominated script that was so lucky to feature Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay in the starring roles. ROOM tells the extraordinary story of Jack, a spirited 5-year-old who is looked after by his loving and devoted mother. But obviously the studio saw the talent in the pages, and had Ms. I still think the play is a good idea, it's an idea that completely lends itself to a small space. It had so much potential as a movie, but to me, especially a play. When I read Emma Donoghue's "Room" in 2012, I knew I just HAD to adapt it. ![]()
